Am I shooting myself in the foot by linking to my social media pages?

The website that I look after (bangabeat.com) has links in the header and footer of each page to social media profiles. 5 profiles = 10 links total per page.  I should note that almost all external links link into the homepage.

Based on what I have read over the past few days, I now believe that these social media links are sucking "link juice" or pagerank off of my website to my social media profiles.  I don't really care about my social media profiles getting "link juice", the pages that I want to rank well are in the menu:

- Homepage (for music therapy winnipeg)
- Autism learning centre (for autism winnipeg)
- Autism (for autism facts winnipeg)
- Alzheimer's / Dementia (for Alzheimers winnipeg)
- Stroke / Brain Injury (for stroke winnipeg)

My question is, if I get rid of my social media links and thus keep the internal linking more circular, will this help my target landing pages rank better.

Not at all. These are relevant links for your site and therefore are not causing you a problem in regards of SEO. Always the rule has to be if the link that you're placing is relevant or not for your site and the visitors arriving.

If you are facing this issue then why don't you add target="_blank" attribute with hyperlink of social media profile page. By adding this, it will open your social media page in new tab of web browser.

Do not remove social media links from your website; it is not going to hurt your page rank. The social pages linked to your site should be active; only bad links cause harm.
