Mobile Site Background color disappears

I made a mobile site with xhtml/css. When I view on my blackberry vertically it looks great, when I turn it horizontally, it scales to fit screen which is fine, but when I go back to the vertical view, the bottom half of the website turned white. The whole background should be blue b/c of css.

Do you think that is a phone issue and nothing to do with css?

Because when I refresh the page in the vertical view, the whole background turns to blue again like it should...weird
