Search-based applications (SBA) are computer applications which include search as part of a domain-oriented computer process. The term is also used to cover the architecture for such applications. SBAs combine characteristics of enterprise search, operational business intelligence and B2C search-based web applications to serve the information needs of specific internal and customer-facing business activities.
Examples of search based applications include:
- Customer relationship management
- Contextual advertising in an Online advertising system
- The offloading of search from a database index, also known as database offloading
- Logistics operations such as online Tracking and tracing
