XPS Annotator is document management software for Microsoft Windows that allows users to view, annotate, convert, sign and print an XPS documents.[3][1] Software was first released in 12 March 2009 (version 1.0).[4] It is created by Danang Probo Sayekti[5] of Indonesia, Magelang.
Features
In earlier versions, the installer using the Windows Installer, and from version 1.20 until the present version (version 1.21) using Inno Setup to create the installer[4]. The .exe files generated by the Inno Setup is compressed into ZIP format, there are two kinds of files contained in the zip file, which is readme.html and the installer files in the form of .exe files.
Annotating XPSs
XPS Annotator has the ability to add annotations to the Open XML Paper Specification (XPS) documents. Like PDF document, the XPS document also supports the annotation feature[6]. However, annotations features found on the XPS document is still limited. The XPS annotations itself can include many types of content such as typed text, handwritten notes, or Web links.
There are three options users can add: highlight annotations, text annotations and ink annotations.
- Highlight annotations: allows user to highlighting lines of text or paragraphs to draw attention to items of interest.
- Text annotations and ink annotations: with this features, user can adding text notes or ink notes to flag information for later reference.
Signing XPSs
XPS Annotator also support digital signatures[7]. User can digitally signed or encrypted the XPS document for security or authentication, and the supported security certificate is X.509.
Converting XPSs
The existence of the converter to convert XPS documents to image files. XPS Annotator currently supports conversion of XPS documents into several popular image formats including PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF and TIFF.[8]
Other features
- Can adding document properties (i.e. Title, Subject, Author).
- Ability to print the annotations.
- Support general operations such as print, save, zoom, text search, copy and paste.
